    jpg's (Netscape 6.2)

I have IE set as my default browser, but all jpg's received through my e-mail (Outlook 97) want to open in Netscape and the pics are impossible to see! What do I need to change in order for IE to open the jpg's??

    Thank you

The normal route is through Windows Explorer (not IE)

Tools > Folder Options > File Types
Find the jpg extensions - usually JPE, JPEG and JPG
Click Change and select the application you want to use to open them.

(In the example below, you can see I have PhotoEditor as my choice.)

    Re: jpg's (Netscape 6.2)

Thank you very much Leif for such a speedy reply!! I have made the suggested changes, however, they still open through Netscape! My next question -- will jpg/jpegs already received in e-mail not change to the associated program OR might I have missed something when I made the changes to the associated program?

    Thank you again.

    Hi Mitchie:
Leif's offline right now, so let me step in. You need to select the Open option for your JPEG Image (& there may be more than one JPEG images listed) & then click Edit... Then browse for the application. Note the "%1" at the end. See the attached (if I do this right).

Here's the last picture. Some day I'll get the hang of this.

Good idea, Leif. In Win98SE, you have to shift+right click to get an Open with... option. You must have a different OS.

    Thanks for taking over there, Phil <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

I often wonder if it is not simpler sometimes to go this route:

Using Explorer, find a .jpg file, right-click or shift-right-click (depending on your OS) and select Open With (even if Photo Editor is a listed option)
Scroll through the next window to find (eg) Microsoft Photo Editor
Select Always use this program to open these files

    Yep - W2K!

I've modified the original post above to hopefully guide future users with different operating systems who chance upon this thread.
