    Auto dates (XP)

How do change the way word auto completes its date, or alternativly turn it off.

If I type 08 Sept 2002 it tries to complete it with 08 Sept 2002-09-08 if I press enter.

    Thanks,

    Simon

Word uses the format specified for a "short date" in the OS, as I recall in the regional settings.
You can use codes in the field to format the date differently, for example

    SAVEDATE @ "d MMMM yyyy"

would result in 8 September 2002 (my local time).

I have also noticed that if I type 2002 then Word offers to AutoCorrect this to the current date in the format yyyy-mm-dd. This is definitely not the short form date from my regional settings. I can't find any AutoCorrect options that will disable this or change the format either.

THat's like a result of Bill Gates thinking he knows best what you want.
Likely a result of the new Dumb Tags feature, which I immediately disabled.

Uncheck "Label text with dumbtags" in Tools | Autocorrect options | Dumb tags.
