    Find/Replace * (Excel 2002)

    I have a Text Field that starts with a *. How do I do a found and replace of the * with nothing. Example "'*A3223 M05" and I would like it to be "'A3223 M05"

    Precede the * with a tilde (the character top-left of your keyboard above the TAB key).
    So type this into the find box:

    ~*

    Just as added info:
    ~? looks for question marks ("?")
    ~~ looks for tildes ("~")

    Quite so, the tilde is there to tell Excel it has to take the next character for its search, rather than use it's "function". This is done to be able to search for the wildcard characters themselves.
