    Win Xp Sp-1 (Xp Home)

Just wanted to advise that the long awaited? Service Pack 1 for xp is now available. I just downloaded it (large) and installed it. I checked out most of the
important things to see how it upgraded and if my apps all work. All seems Ok at this point.
They do give you the option of archiving and saving all of your old files including the registry, so you can roll back if you have any problems. there is on big SP download and then after installation there is a second help and info file(s) to download.
All available through the regular Windows Update site.
    So far, so good. I'll keep everyone posted as to further information <img src=/S/new.gif border=0 alt=new width=35 height=15> <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23>

Yes, I found this at the premier download site on Saturday and attempted to beat the crowd (I did). Installation went exceptionally well, the cleanest I have ever seen for a Windows service pack. I did experience one oddity after installation, which was that the display developed a case of black spots. The screen wasn't re-drawing properly. However, one reboot later it was a memory and I can't directly attribute it to SP1, although it was suspect because this is a clean install of XP using all the latest drivers.

I'd love to hear other folks' experience with the service pack too. I expect this one to do fairly well, given the polish that the Softies have put into XP.

Overnight, after Tech TV announced an exploitable file that Microsoft hid from the public for eleven weeks until SP1 patched it's vulnerability, Google elected to pull all references to the file--an unusual move for a "search" engine. In this case, the search engine became a "hide" engine.

Edited by WyllyWylly to add remove quoted text that is available via the hyperlink. Sorry defrag, it was just too much! <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Among a number of other advantages, SP1 protects you against a large vulnerability which was announced in a Windows Security Bulletin very recently, and the announcement of the flaw was held back for eleven weeks at Microsoft's request .

There will be security flaws in the future, with add-ons to SP1 to address them.
    The announced bugs are:
Q324720 List of Bugs that are Fixed in Windows XP Service Packs
Categorized of Fixes and Corresponding KB's in Windows XP SP1
Q322389 How to Obtain the Lastest Windows XP Service Pack

Some people may not jump on SP1 right away--it is a large download and bugs in it /with it are being reported rapidly. For some reason, people with legitimate Product Keys are being denied it in some cases.

The large security vulnerability where a malicious ubiquitous URL that you just click on or view by opening the wrong email is discussed at Gibson Research's website.
