Hard drive reformat

My son has just setup his own computer -- and now I can remove all his, uh, stuff, from mine. He had a lot of stuff ... and I'm sure that as it is deleted there will be a lot of files, pointers, and registry entries left over.
Therefore, I would like to reformat the hard drive to get a fresh start.
Can you point me to some resource that will guide me step by step through the process?
Thanks for your guidance.

Thanks, Dave. I've visited the site and downloaded the five pages of instructions. I'll read those and give it a try in the next few days.
