insert auto text is 'blank' (word 2000 9.0.2720)

Recently, I had a new problem in Word. When working on Headers/Footers, I would go to insert auto text, and pick "file path", I used to click on the "insert auto text" button and the option would be there. Now, when I click it, there is NOTHING.

Where did it go? How can I get it back? How did I mess this up?

    HELP!!!

    Thanks,

    Rick

Is it possible that your autotext entries were edited to appear in a different style? There's a "Header" & "Footer" style that determines which autotext entries appear in that drop down list. If you travel the longer path (Insert > Autotext > Autotext), is your File & Pathname entry still listed?

Can you get any autotext entries when in the body of the document?

Which template were the autotext entries stored in? Has it moved?

If you open the organiser, can you see any autotext entries in the normal template or the attached template?

    Hi Rick:
As others have suggested, autotext is stored in templates & if you haven't customized templates, you probably used normal.dot. Search you hard drive for normal.dot, & with Word closed, rename it normal.old, & restart Word. Normal.dot will be recreated & you should have your standard autotext entries.
