    Outlook Profile Disappears (Outlook 2000 SR-1)

    We are installing Outlook, and we are creating profiles for users using newprof.exe. After installing, we open outlook and check to make sure everything looks okay. If we then close outlook and go immediately back into it, the computer cannot find the Exchange Profile, and prompts the user to recreate it.

    I found an article on the knowledge base (KB article Q261934) that says to upgrade to sr-1a. We have SR1. If you have SR1 installed, sr1a will not install. So I'm back to the drawing board. Does anyone recognize this problem, and if so, what did you do to fix it? <img src=/S/hairout.gif border=0 alt=hairout width=31 height=23>

    We haven't experienced your particular problem, but wondered if this option below is being used in your set up? Our PC's show the profile as MS Exchange Setting.
    Select a user profile to use when Outlook starts
    On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Mail Services tab.
    To specify a user profile to be used every time you start Outlook, click Always use this profile, and then select the profile you want.
    To be prompted to select the user profile to use each time you start Outlook, click Prompt for a profile to be used.
    Click OK.
    Quit and restart Outlook.

    The SR-1a update lists itself as SR-1. Isn't that convenient? The build number in Help|About should, I believe, be 9.0.0.3821 for SR-1a.

    Ugh, that's what we have! There goes that theory. I also have a theory about it being a problem with the mapisvc.inf file. I found an article that suggests that renaming the mapisvc.inf and then forcing it to reinstall will rebuild lost services. Of course this didn't work either. So, I'm back at square one with this problem for now. If anyone thinks of anything, please let me know! Thanks!!!

    We already have Outlook setup to always use MS Exchange Settings profile. Is this the way we should have it?

    Just to confirm, if you right-click

    C:Program FilesCommon FilesSYSTEMMapi1033NTNEWPROF.EXE

    and choose properties, does your match mine? (I installed from the SR-1 (a) CDs.)

    Version tab:

    File version: 5.5.3121.0

    General tab:

    Created date = 2/23/99
    Modified date = 1/21/00

    (Since this computer was set up about a year ago, the discrepancy is somewhat mysterious.)

    Hi,
    This is the way we have it set up. Most of our users also do not move around, so the PC is set up to point to their mail ID.
    Following Jeff's reply, I checked our version of NEWPROF.EXE, we have the same version number.

    Actually, our Newprof.exe was modified 2/23/99. Since the file is 52K, could someone send me the newer version?
