Save Flash Downloads To Disk? (IE 6.0.2600)

When I view a 6MB Flash presentation on the web, which downloads before it starts playing, is there a way that the presentation can be saved to my hard drive? I searched my entire system and cannot find where it was downloaded to. There is nothing pertinent in my Windows or Internet Temp files. Thanks. Robert Storms

It will be in Cocuments and SettingsRJStormsLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files.

Right-click in the window, select "Arrange icons by", then "Type" and look for the files that end in ".swf ".

If you have the "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed" box checked in the "Security" section of the "Advanced" tab of the Internet Options, then they will not be there when you close the browser. Otherwise, they will be there.

If Bruce's method doesn't work, try what I do:
    1. <LI>View the source code for the page that plays the animation, and find the path to it.

<LI>Create a small HTML page that lets you download it. Here's a template for that page:

      <UL>Download target.swf
      *
<LI>Open the page in your browser, right-click and Save Target As... onto your PC.[/list]

If you can locate the the absolute URL path in the source code, you can just enter that in the address bar that and it will download automatically.

When I do that, it plays rather than offering to save to disk. Might be something in my security settings is different than yours??

Yes, it will play, but it must download before it can play. You will notice in your status bar that it indicates it is downloading from site. Then you just copy it from the TIF as outlined above.

Thanks, Bruce and Jefferson, for the input. I have made some progress.

After playing the flash presentation on the web site, I kept my browser (IE 6.0) open and found the .swf file in my C:WindowsTemporary Internet FilesContent.IE5xxxxxxx folder. (I use Win98SE.) I then copied and pasted the .swf file into another folder on my hard drive, and then closed everything.

The copied .swf file on my hard drive, however, will not open because I do not know what program/file to use in the

    First, for Jefferson's suggestion:

    1) Open Notepad on a new file.

    2) Copy and Paste this line into this page:

    Download target.swf

    3) Modify that line so that it contains the things you want it to. That is change "www.domain.com" to the correct IP address, and chagne the "/target.swf" to be the correct file name. You can modify the "Download target.swf" or just leave it the same -- it does not matter.

    4) Save this file to your Desktop as "Download.htm". Make sure the bottom of Notepad says "Save as type: All Files (*.*)".

    5) Go to your Desktop and right-click on the new "Hyper-link" that is the only thing on that page.

    6) Select "Save Target As..."

EDIT: You can run the .swf file with Internet Explorer!

Select "iexplore" in the OpenWith box and you should be in business.

You can also download a Flash Player here.

Thanks from me too, I was wondering the same thing, if I needed to have a "flash" program installed in order to save and re-play. I knew where to locate the file, but because my home computer is heavily loaded I have not installed a flash program. Knowing it can be run in IE is very cool. <img src=/S/clapping.gif border=0 alt=clapping width=19 height=23>
