    Mouse Trails in 2000

Got a question. Sometimes in Windows 2000, my mouse starts acting sluggish and leaving a trail behind. It doesn't happen all the time, and it's not based on how many programs are open because it can happen with nothing open and nothing running in the background. Any suggestions?

What kind of mouse? Are you sure you've got the most recent drivers?

Check the intellipoint confiuration. Is it configured to leave trails? Do you have it configured to accelerate as you move?

I've got it configured for normal operation with no trails or any accelerated features. I'm starting to think more towards memory.

Could be. The newer the MS OS the more sensitive to memory. Are you sure there is no service running that would 'take over' the sytem briefly?

When was the last time you cleaned out the mouse's innards?

Have you checked the connection and pins? Can you try another mouse on this machine or try the failing mouse on another machine?
