    Service Symbol (Word 2000)

Word allows a user to easily insert a trademark symbol, TM in superscript, through either insert-symbol or through using the autocorrect entry of (tm) and it will create it.

However there is apparently a newer industry standard called a "service trademark symbol" - designated by SM in superscript. I'm having a hard time making it easy to do in Word. It is NOT given as a possibility for any symbols in any font I can find, and when I try to create a new autocorrect entry making (sm) into superscript SM, it doesn't do the superscript part of it.

    Any ideas?

Here's what I did and it worked for me:

type sm and then format it as Superscript.

    Select the sm.

    Select Tools|Autocorrect from the menu

Down at the bottom int the Replace text as you type frame, enter (sm) into the Replace box, sm should already be in the With box

Then make sure you select the Formatted Text Radio button.

Click Add and then OK and you're done.

Type (sm) into the document and you should get the sm in superscript.

Thanks! That worked great! All I had done wrong in my first attempt was miss that little radio button for formatted text.

    Thanks for the help.
