Can't use Signature Picker? (O98, WinNT)

Has anyone else come across a situation where the 'Signature Picker' button is greyed out? And if so, can you tell me what might make this happen?

I have a user who wishes to create a signature but can't 'cos it's greyed out - she says the machine was set up by cloning another existing one and wonders whether that might be causing this problem?

Many thanks in advance for any help given!

I don't know why anyone would disable signatures, but you could check the Policies key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoft etc.

to see if by chance there's something set there. (When I see 12 line signatures, I sometimes think about finding a way to truncate them, but that's another story.)

Good idea, Jefferson, but I can't see anything there that mentions Signatures (or even Outlook specifically!).

    Anyone have any other ideas? Please?! <img src=/S/grovel.gif border=0 alt=grovel width=31 height=23>

I've now found out what was causing this, so I'm posting the fix for anyone else who has this problem.

In Tools, Options, Mail Format, there are three areas; message format, stationery and fonts, and signature. It seems that if the message format ('send in this message format:') is set to Word, the signature picker will not be available! Setting the message format to Miscrosoft Outlook Rich Text fixed it.

You didn't say what version of Outlook she was running. But if it is 98, check under her Options, the Mail Format tab. If she is using Word as her email editor, Outlook will disable the signature picker. I believe the same is also true for Outlook 2000.
