XP Help Center Scare (XP Pro)

Does anyone know anything about these guys - are they for real or is this a plot to panic the public?

BigAl, Quite often The Register contains nothing but garbage. They tend to specialize in fear mongering and MS bashing (not that MS doesn't deserve to be beaten up quite often). You'll regularly see them trying to make a big deal out of a buf that has already been patched. In this case the problem they describe is true. See defrag's post <post#=178801>post 178801</post#>. If you've applied XP SP-1 you're OK.

Thanks for the comments, Joe. I have not applied SP1 yet as I ordered the CD rather than go through the download headache. But thanks to your lead to Defrag's post, I temporarily went to Steve Gibson's site and did his little thing to take whatever precaution it provides. It's really scary that MS didn't post a fix for this "problem" after all this time!
