    PowerPoint from a Pocket PC

I wouldlike to run a Powerpoint presentation from my Pocket PC, a Jornada 568 to a projector. Is this possible? And, if so, what softare and hardware is required? I have Office XP.

    Thanks,
    Michael

PS: I'm also posting this on the PP list, and hope I don't break any rules.

    Hi Michael:

As far as I know, your only choice would be a line of products from a company called Margi, who make the Presenter to Go. There are lots of products that allow you to review a PPT on your handheld, but Margi is the only one I know of that will take the output from the handheld device and plug into a projector. However, I looked on the compatability list and your Jornada model doesn't seem to be there. You may want to take a closer look.

We use the Voyager VGA adapter. It supports the 560 series according to the vendor: Colorgraphic. It uses a CF format card in the handheld and a cable runs from that to the projector. You do have to install a driver and the software interface. We've had no problems doing that.

I'm curious how you're doing the Powerpoint. Everything we've tried converts the slides to static graphic files. You lose sound and animation, which isn't acceptable to our users. (Personally, I'd trade them in exchange for not lugging a laptop.)

OldDog, do you have a URL for the Voyager product?

For the benefit of those that are checking out the thread but haven't opened their browsers to Colorgraphic's web site, the page on features and specs indicates it's a Windows CE/PocketPC device only in the form of a Compact Flash card. Good news, Michael - the support devices page has your Jornada listed. Good luck with that!

FWIW HP made a PC card VGA device, part number HP1252A. It works on the HPC form factor machines (HP680, 720) which come with Pocket PowerPoint but I don't know about the PPC form factor (do they have a PC card slot?). As I say HP no longer make it but you may be able to pick one up elsewhere.

Re: PowerPoint from a Pocket PC

Well, thanks for all the help! I got myself a Margi Presenter-to-Go insert for my Jornada 568, and it all works like a charm. Now I don't have to drag my laptop to work everyday, just my Pocket PC. Neat.

    Thanks,
    Michael
