    Lost Second Mail Accounts (6.00.2800.1106(xpsp1))

I installed Windows XP Home SP1. I had two email addresses with different identities, passwords, files, etc. for two individual users. Since the installation of SP1, both identities show the mail and files for the Main Identity, even when the other name and password is entered. When I try to edit the Properties for the second identity, it asked for the password, accepts it and goes back to the main screen. I want to find the second identity and its files as well as access the email account for that person.

Have you tried going into Tools>Accounts>Add New and re creating the 2nd identity again from scratch? Perhaps do so and change the password as well, see if that works. Good Luck.

Thanks. I seemed to have recreated the identity using your advice. The emails from both identities are showing up in the same Inbox. I previously had a separate set of files {Inbox, etc) for the second identity. I have the previous files on my computer. Can I associate the second identity with these old files or create a new set of files?

Hi there, yes I would certainly re-create new folders for the second identity and associate them, then once working happily I would simply copy over the previous files you might have had from the earlier setup. I have found from experience it is easier to delete a profile that is giving trouble and start from scratch. It is cleaner and works first time up - at least always has for me. <img src=/S/bravo.gif border=0 alt=bravo width=16 height=30> I am happy to know re-creating the second identity fixed the problem, it does not take long, so it is worth the time rather than working forever on an previous setup that is giving you a headache.

Re: Lost Second Mail Accounts (6.00.2800.1106(xpsp1))

    Hi,
I have the same problem talked about here, lost the secondary mail account after the SR-1 upgrade. the Switch Identities function is what seems to be broken. I have done the Tools-Account-New while under the main itentity and now have 2 accounts combined under the main account.

I have tried to Switch Identities and it goes back to the main one. This condition is the one I am trying to fix after it happened with the SR-1 upgrade. I can't figure out how to split the secondary account out of the main one. If switch accounts will not let me get to the new one I can't fix and/or delete and upgrade the messages.
    Thanks for the help
    Regards,
