Is there any simple way to document queries. I have a very complex database (complex because the outside data source has lost the plot a bit on standardisation). What would be ideal is that for each calculated column on a query, I could document what that particular section of the query is doing eg what the data source is, what the calculation is doing and what exceptions apply as part of the query itself. The comment section in properties is too short

You can't write long explanations in the description properties, but you can enter brief descriptions for the query itself and for each field separately. Another approach is to save your explanations in a special table in the database. You can save the query name in a text field and the description in a memo field and even include the SQL in another field if you want. Thanks for the quick response - exactly where can I enter brief descriptions "for each field separately"

Just right click on the field you want to add a comment for and select Properties, then just enter into the Description field.
