Recovery File?? (Word 97)

After a network freeze up, word 97 on one of our workstations seems to try and access a recovery file that is no longer on the system. This happens when a file is opened from Windows Explorer. Two error messages come up (1) cannot open file try a) there is no .doc extension or open from file menu in Word. Click ok and a second error that states that the path (mapped drive) is not correct. Click ok and file selected opens. This does not happen when the file is opened from file menu of word.

Any suggestions about how to remove this inconvenience.

    Re: Recovery File?? (Word 97)

Not a solution, but a workaround: Start Word first, then open the document. This will allow Word to determine if there really is a .ASD (AutoSave) file to recover from, without having to simultaneously open the double-clicked .doc file. If the error persists, check the "AutoRecover files" path under Tools|Options...|File Locations and see if it points to an invalid path.
