Re: Macro (Word 2000)

<post#=174601>post 174601</post#> should give you the information necessary to build such a macro. If not, maybe Jefferson could add to his star post.

Re: Macro to Print from Specific Tray (Word 2000)

(Edited by jscher2000 on 17-Sep-02 12:42. New information!!)
You have two options:

    1.
Set the print trays you want in the PageSetup dialog, or the VBA equivalent. Because each section can have its own first page and all-other-pages tray settings, trying to account for all of the possibilities can be a bit tricky. If you plan to create different buttons for different types of documents, e.g., Letter Draft, Letter Final, Plain Paper, then you can come up with a reasonable strategy for how to set all of the section regardless of how many there are.

Create a duplicate printer and set the default tray for each "printer" differently, then switch between the printers. This requires that you set the tray settings to Default tray in Word's PageSetup dialog, and doesn't allow the flexibility to choose different trays for different pages. (If you were to choose this approach, see my earlier post.)
    Does this help?

Oh, I just saw your post on the other thread:

Could you dig deeper into this post. What I want to do is create a macro that will tell a document to print from tray 2 of the printer for the first page and tray 3 of the same printer for every page after that. Tray 2 has letterhead in it and tray 3 has regular paper in it. Thanks

In this case, you want #1.

The decisions you have to make in coding this are:
    1.
Do you want to store the original tray settings before changing them so you can change them back after printing? (This is a lot more work, but is polite if it's not exclusively your document).

Do you want to apply the tray2-tray3 rule to every section, or to the document as a whole? If this were a merge, you would want the rule to apply to every section. Otherwise, if the extra sections are, for example, some attachments, you would not. Or do you want to give yourself a choice at run time?
Your call. And then I'm sure the volunteers will swarm the thread while I go out to lunch.

    What happened to the question?

We could move the whole thread to the Puzzles board and see who can come up with the best suggestion

Speaking of things missing over in the Puzzles forum.

We're all stumped by who the 4th woman is, aren't we?

    Surely, (and that's not a hint - S H I R L E Y) someone recognizes the names

    Julia, Mary, and Louise

and can tell me who the missing woman is.

Ok, another hint for those puzzlers finding this post in the Word forum:

A long-time resident of the UK might have a clue.

    Macro (Word 2000)

I want to build a macro that tells a document which gives a document a print comand and tells it to pull from one tray or another.
