    ghost file (2000)

I was doing some 'spring cleaning, and deleted all .DOC files on my PC. Now, when i go to open word, there is an old file there that i have to erase befor starting new. I've done a search, no DOC files are on my PC. any suggestions?

You probably saved one of the old files as normal.dot. Do a search on your computer for normal.dot. If there are no customizations, just delete it--it will be rebuilt when Word starts. If there are customizations, just open normal.dot (do NOT double click it, right click & choose Open if viewing its icon from an Explorer window) & delete all the text & graphics & save it. If there's a lot of junk in it, you might be better off creating a new normal.dot & then copying styles, macros, autotext, & toolbars into the new normal.dot.
    Cheers,
