    Office XP problem (2002)

In WORD, my computer keeps typing 'Aaaaa' when I am not using the keyboard.
In EXCEL, my computer keeps losing data and formulas when I am not active on the keyboard.
I have, as suggested, removed 'speech' from all Office programs and disconnected it from my computer. It still does this.
I have removed the program three times and re-installed it. It still does this.
The person who set up my computer cannot find the problem.
I am open to other suggestions.

Office is the only suite of applications where this occurs? Two things come to mind: a virus, or a faulty keyboard. Run a full virus scan with up-to-date definitions, and see if you can test with an alternate keyboard. More information on when these problems occur (after opening the application, for example, or after opening a document) would be extremely useful also.

Is it by any chance a wireless keyboard near someone else with a wireless keyboard?

No, there is no wireless keyboard on or near this computer. I do have a telephone with a wireless phone within two feet. Other things nearby are a printer, fax machine, scanner, but none are wireless.

    Re: Office XP problem (2002)

Thank you for your quick response to my question.

Yes, office XP (Professional) is the only application where this occurs and only in word and excel. I use Outlook for e-mail and have no trouble with e-mails. I have an automatic virus program (Norton) and have run it several times manually. I have tried another keyboard and it still happens. It only happens after opening a document (on every document I open) However, if I leave a new document on the screen, after a few minutes, it happens there also. In my line of business (CPA) I really use Excel more than Word, so it becomes very frustrating to lose my formulas and data.

I have purchased another Windows XP Prof and Office XP Prof for my laptop and it does not occur there. Microsoft will not send me a new one to replace the one I have on my main computer, and I really don't want to invest that much more for a new Office XP Prof, not knowing if it will do the same thing.

If you haven't already looked at this thread, you might want to check out <post#=175852>post 175852</post#> on steps you have to take to remove speech recognition. If you also have a microphone of some sort connected to your computer you might want to remove it as well.

Also try to install the Alternative User Input Hot Fix from Microsoft - http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/...n/Xpaltnpt.htm. This requires SP-1. Better yet, install SP-2. This may just fix your problem and still allow you to use speech and handwriting recognition.
