Full Download - Win2K/XP (IE6 sp1)

How do Win2K/XP users get the "full download" version of IE6 sp1?? The usual two methods that I use to do this seem to be defunct:

1) Custom install and select "Download and Install later"
2) Corporate Download.

If you try the first method form the download page, you get this nice little message:

"Windows 2000 and Windows XP users Custom installation is not available for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 on Windows 2000 or Windows XP operating systems."

If you try to get this from the corporate site, you will find this:

"The Windows Update Corporate Web site has been retired.
No new updates have been published to the Windows Update Corporate Web site since March 1, 2002."

So, what are we supposed to do????

I would just go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ordercd/ie6sp1.asp Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 CD (U.S. and Canada Only) and order the CD.

RM--This may be from the same MS FTP server or a mirror, but will this work for you?

Also as Dave A and Joe P pointed out on the XP threads, you can get IE 6 SP1 with the 134 MB download for "networks and multiple computers."
The full version of XPSP1 download contains the IE6 SP1 Update
So that might solve your problem if you are trying for an XP machine--I don't know the answer to two things:
1) Whether an Express XPSP1 also contains IE6SP1--I would sure think it does.
2) Would there be any harm, assuming you had a Win 2K machine, in adding XPSP1 and some of it's hotfixes to that machine? I couldn't remember whether you are using a 2K or an XP machine since your question said "2K/SP".

I was looking around the update options tonight looking to trim back the download time (still on slow-speed dialup at home) and found that by going into the custom setup and then choosing the advanced option I was given dialogue box where I could choose to Download only for a full install later. This is for WinME, so I can't say for sure if it will work for you, but since I'm on Win2K at the office I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Sorry, but that only works for Win9x. Win2K/XP is not given the "Custom" option.

Bummer. <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15> Ok, so are there any explanations why Microsoft has been removing the "Custom" installation options from their OS's and now IE? I liked the old days of Win 3.x when the setup asked what we wanted to install. <img src=/S/disappointed.gif border=0 alt=disappointed width=15 height=15>

Found a potential solution, just might need some help to implement. With my home WinME, selecting custom install, and then the download option, I was given the following selection box. Unless it can't deliver what it seems to promise, I think that all that would be needed is to choose to download the "Win2000 / XP" version on a Win98/ME platform and then either transfer the file where needed via email, network, or burned to a cd.
