    User Name (Windows XP)

Can anyone tell me how to alter the registry so as to change the default user name on my computer? Not the log in name but the user name that is displayed in the System Information dialogue? Thanks.

If you are comfortable using system tweaking software try X-setup from XTEQ systems. It is free and you can control an amazing amount of settings about your system. One of which is the registered owner. Check http://www.xteq.com. That site will point you to download sites. Remember this is a fairly advanced tool. You should be very careful about changing settings that you are unfamiliar with.

    Run REGEDIT, navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersion
Modify the "RegisteredOwner" and RegisteredOrganization" string values.
