Inserting & Resizing Excel Spreadsheets (2000)

    Hello All,
I am having trouble inserting an Excel spreadsheet, rotating it from portrait to landscape in my Word document, and resizing it so that the width of the spreadsheet will fit within my Word document's page margins.
Would someone mind walking me through the procedure?
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Hi Jeff:
Once the table is in Word & you switch orientation:
    1. Press Alt+double click to select the table.
    2. Right click & choose Autofit/to window.

That will resize your table to the margins. To have them resize automatically, go to Table/Properties & make the table width 100% rather than inches or centimeters.
    Cheers,

    Phil,
I'm having trouble doing what you are saying to do. Once I have the Excel spreadsheet in my Word document, nothing happens when I Alt+double click. Then when I right click, I don't get the choice to autofit.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Re: Inserting & Resizing Excel Spreadsheets (2000)

    Hi Jeff:

You don't say how you are trying to insert the Excel spreadsheet (copy/paste, which would produce a Word table, or paste special, Excel worksheet object, which creates an embedded Excel spreadsheet) or whether you are trying to put the spreadsheet on a separate page by itself or within a page that has other text/tables on it. If you are using copy/paste, then you can use Phil's suggestion. This is particularly true if you're trying to set up a landscape table on a portrait page.

If your using paste special and trying to set it up as a portrait page (which sounds like the case), you'll need to set up a landscape page in Word (Insert Section Break Next Page, then File Page Setup), then go the paste special route. To size the spreadsheet to fit within the margins, right click the Excel spreadsheet, select Format Object, and adjust the size on the Size tab.

Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any way you can rotate an Excel spreadsheet on a portrait page so that it will be in landscape format.

Re: Inserting & Resizing Excel Spreadsheets (2000)

    Hi Jeff:
I guess I assumed that you copy & pasted or copied & Paste Special as something other than an Excel object or picture. As Spence mentioned, if you do it as copy/paste (or Paste Special as formatted text, HTML...i.e. not a picture or linked object), then you have a Word table that you can manipulate. The table will automatically "rotate" when you change the page orientation.

Thanks, Spence, for jumping in & explaining what I too quickly took for granted. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
    Cheers,
