Full Copy of SP1 (XP Home)

I installed the Express SP1 and everything seems to be working fine. But I'd like to have a full version on CD to use the next time I want to clean up my PC and do a full reinstall of XP and all software. I know I can purchase the CD from MS, but can I just go back to the Windows update site and download the Network version update (without re-running MS's install), then burn it on to a CD? Seems the standard way the update site works is it wants to run the install package as part of the download and not saving the download, so you'd have to repeat the whole process again if you want to reinstall.

You can go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/dow...sp1/network.asp and get the full 134 meg file.
This can then be burned on a CD or stored on a network drive and ALL will have access.

The Network installation includes all of the Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) files needed to upgrade Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional or Windows XP 64-Bit Edition. This download is recommended for IT professionals who want to deploy SP1 to multiple computers over a network. ISDN or faster connection is highly recommended.

Typical download times for the Network installation:
    32-bit Platforms: 134 MB | 5.5 hours @ 56K | 11 minutes @ T1

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Hi,

When I downloaded the file on a high speed link, the transfer was throttled down to about 8-9 kb/sec
and it took several hours. I don't know where the restriction was applied.

    Cheers,
    Mouser.

No restrictions - just probably too many connected clients...

Thanks! I'm downloading it now. Like the other post said, the download speed is slow, currently running at about 6.2 kb/sec (I'm on broadband cable and typically get about 150 kb/sec); but I'll just let it run all night, if that's what it takes.
