I have removed indexing but dont seem to have got ant further since my last post.

It canot be doing my drive any good, please help.

Let's not guess, Simon. Let's find out what the system will tell us.

Start Task Manager by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC all at the same time. You can also right-click the taskbar and select it from there.

Now, select the Processes tab.

Click on the View menu and choose [/b]Select Columns...[/b]

As in the attached screen shot, place a check in the box next to Page Faults.

Click OK.

Click on the new column in the list of tasks: Page Faults. This will sort the list by the number of page faults.

Note the top listed application(s) - say the first three - and the number listed under page faults.[/list]Page faults are hits to the disk. The processes listed with the highest number are the cause for your constant access. Depending on what's responsible, different solutions would be required. If nothing seems obvious, by all means post what you found.

    Good luck!

    Nice one!

The attached is a screen shot of task manager with the info

transtask.exe, explorer.exe & lsass.exe are the ones that seem to be increasing

transtask increases 350 - 400 each time in synch with the noise.
    explorer.exe, 100 each time
    the others 1s and 2s

    Thanks,

    Simon

transtask.exe is for tweak-xp, after removing the programme the fault still exists.

it turns out espmain.exe is the culprit, after ending the process the fault is cleared.

I have removed the link from my startup folder and all seems well.

What do you use to create the smart window borders on your screenshot?

    Thanks for your help

Aye, ESPMAIN it is. Looks to be an Epson utility - in cases where it turns out to be an innocuous system exe of some kind, I usually follow up with the manufacturer to see if the behavior is aberrant or not.

I use WindowBlinds on my PC, which is responsible for the windows and borders that you see. In the attached shot it was the Dedalus skin.
