    Faulty Keyboard?

I've got a Logitech cordless. Shift+3 should give the UK pound sterling sign ,but I get a # (just pressed Shift +3); Shift +2 should give the quote " character, but I get @ (which I should get when I press Shift +' ).Any clues what's going on? Thanks.

Have you checked your Keyboard's Language settings (Control Panel | Keyboard)?

Yes... just to go further with Mark's comment, it sounds like the keyboard is set to use (throught the OS) the US keyboard layout, rather than the UK.
