Magnification (Word 2002 SP-1 on Win 2000 Pro)

<img src=/S/hello.gif border=0 alt=hello width=25 height=29> This was a problem I had when I was first upgraded to XP but it seemed to settle down. However, we have recently had the Klez virus and our much beleagured IT had to reinstal everything on everyone's pc and I now have this small irritation back.

I have a document saved on the desktop - not a template, just a simple document I use everyday. It is usually the first thing I open in Word and each day it opens as a different size: today it was 123%, yesterday 114% and so on. I really just want it 100%. It's not a major problem but it is an irritation.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for your help.

In theory, the zoom and view settings are saved when you save the document. Thus, unless you change your zoom each time you work with the document, it should stay relatively consistent. One note on saving: something else must be changed in the document (even one character, pagination or field code updates), or the zoom and view settings will not be saved.

Thank you. I actually don't save changes to the document because it is a simple page into which I put daily tasks with which my boss needs to deal - and, yes, I know this could be dealt with so much more efficiently using Outlook he is not computer literate so ... The original was saved with 100% but I'll open it, make a small change and save it again. Perhaps that will solve the problem.

    Thanks again for your help.

The only time I see a file automatically changing its zoom is when
You change from Normal view (with its zoom) to Page Layout view (with its zoom)
    OR
The file zoom is set to 'Page Width'. This then displays as a percentage that changes according to how wide the window is. Maximised the file may be 120% but at a smaller window setting it may be 70%

Thanks Andrew but I haven't been changing the view. Anyway, I opened it and slightly changed the margins, saved it and it has opened correctly this morning. So we'll see. Thanks again to everyone for their thoughts.
