    Footnotes in Excel 2000

An attorney needs footnotes that appear on every page but when they are typed in the left hand area of footer and the file is saved, the text is replaced with the file name. The attorney doesn't want to use the right hand area of the footer for the footnote.

I'm not an Excel user and just a novice macro writer. Does anyone have an idea on how to get around this problem?

We are using DocsOpen 3.8.2 w/Excel 2000 in a Windows 95 desktop and saving files to a central server. I believe a DocsOpen macro inserts the file name (as ########v#)automatically when a file is saved, using the left-hand area of the footer.

    All suggestions are appreciated.

    1. You may be able to alter the setup for DocsOpen so it didnot overwrite the footnote.

    2. You could put the footnotes in a cell on, say, an extra worksheet in the workbook. You could then run an AutoOpen macro which copied the footnote back to the left pane of the footer.

Thanks very much. We can't try the first option, but the second one sounds workable.
