Showing last 4 files in File menu (Word 2002)

On some computers I find that the last 4 files used do not appear at the bottom of the Word File menu. After going into Tools, Options, General tab, I find the option "Recently used file list" box is greyed out. Can't seem to find any menu command that changes this option so it's usable. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I know this isn't the only cause, but it can be caused by a policy set in the Registry not to display recent files. This is documented in the Office Resource Kit for the relevant version of Office. You can poke around the Policies key for yourself:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoft

(If you are not familiar with the Registry Editor, please read up on it and use caution.)

    Thanks jsher2000; I'll give it a try.
