I'm unable to duplicate this problem. None of the code in HFD should affect Word's spell checking function. When conducting future tests, you may want to go to Tools|TemplatesAndAddins and simply remove the checkmark next to HiddenFileDetector, rather than going to Add/Remove Programs. This will unload HFD temporarily. HFD will reload itself automatically the next time you start Word or you can reload it sooner by going back to Tools|TemplatesAndAddins and replacing the checkmark.

If any other addins are listed under Tools|TemplatesAndAddins, you might want to remove the checkmarks next to those addins as well, to see if this has any effect.

So the scenario is: Word applies the wavy underline, showing that the word is not recognized, but when you run Spell check, Word clears the wavy underline and behaves as though the words are fine?

Are these words being added to your custom dictionary? You could tell that they probably had been added if those words stopped being wavy-underlined in other documents.

Are the document's language settings being changed? If you select a misspelled word that Word isn't picking up on, and check Tools|Language|Set Language... does it show as "no proofing" or "do not spell check"?

Could you post one of the problem documents (assuming it's not highly confidential)?
