# Thread: golf: counting my pars etc. (97)

1. ## golf: counting my pars etc. (97)

a1:a18 shows the par for each hole. b1:b18 shows my score on each hole.
I'd like c1 to show me how many pars I scored during the round, and I'd like c2 to show me how many bogeys (par+1) I scored in the round.

what are formulas for c1 and c2 respectively?

2. ## Re: golf: counting my pars etc. (97)

To show the number of pars in C1, enter the following formula :

=SUM(IF(A1:A18=B1:B18,1,0))

It needs to be array entered, which means you hold down the shilt key as you press enter after typing the formula. This action should enclose the formula in brace brakets ({ }).

In C2 to get the number of scores = Par + 1 use

=SUM(IF(A1:A18=B1:B18 - 1,1,0)),

which should also be array entered. Replace the -1 with -2 to get the number of scores = Par + 2 etc. Change the minus sign to + to get the number of Birdies ( +1 ) or Eagles (+2) etc.

Hold the Ctrl and shift key while you press ENTER, not just the shift key and enter to confirm ARRAY entries

Thanks Steve for pointing out my serious omission.

You are welcome. It is a "minor" error, but would be problematic for those unfamiliar with Arrays
