    Modem DEVICE

I am trying to install a lucent win modem which installs ok but then a message comes up that the computer is trying to install a "modem device" and it is not able to find the driver and then lists it as a problem in device manager. I try to dial out with the modem and I get an error message saying there is no dial tone. I have switched back and forth between two lucent modems and I get the same problem with both. What exactly is a "modem device"?

    Re: Modem DEVICE

The 'Modem Device' is simply the modem itself. Windows has detected a modem which is not 'plug n' play' compatible, or may be, but additional drivers are needed. If you don't have the standard diskettes that came with the hardware, you will have to find the software drivers for the modem you are using EXACTLY. If you try to use the 'generics' offered in the Hardware setup menu in Windows, you're not likely to have a whole lot of good luck.

Your best bet would be to goto http://www.driverguide.com (Uname is: drivers, Pass: all) and see if you can locate the correct driver for your hardware. You'll definitely want to remove any traces of the old hardware, (booting in safe-mode and removing it manually should do it) and go from there.

    I hope this helps!
