Need advice! (IE 5.50)

I have been receiving Microsoft 'Winupdate' messages for downloading/installing SP1 for IE 6.0 for the past week or so. I am presently using v 5.50 w/SP2 and 7 security patches. I am running Windows 98 SE. Should I upgrade to IE 6.0? Any advantages/disadvantages. Your suggestions would be helpful.

Hi Bill:
I can only tell you my own experience. I, too, have Win 98 SE & upgraded from 5.5 to 6.0. I haven't noticed any difference. I've heard that 6.0 is only needed for Window versions after 98, but don't know that for sure. I've also heard from others that people have had problems after the upgrade. I don't regret upgrading, for whatever that's worth.

IE 6.0 sp1 has been solid for me in several environments at work including Win98SE. If you have plans to upgrade your PC or OS in the near future I'd skip it for now. If you are going to stick with 98SE you ought to consider it. I agreee that you'll probably not notice any difference but 6.0 is most likely better under the covers.

Hi Bill--
Yes you clearly should upgrade to IE6.0--better security--better browser; more capability and it is compatible from Win 98 on up chronologically:more features, better security/ Ability and Description of IE6 and this is improved upon with SP1 for IE6. You could download IE 6 for your system with or without IE6 SP1.
