    Hey hlewton--

Not sure on the tooltips adjustment. But you can change the color of your taskbar with several of the IE tweakers, and with Win Guides Tweak Manager. You can download it or its new Beta for a free trial--it's $30.
Also you can skin your taskbar and many other things with Stardock's WindowBlinds and it looks like Bruce and Mark may use it from their screenshots.

Win Guides' Tweak Manager does soooooo many tweaks but it doesn't do changes to the appearance of the Taskbar which is what I wanted. I haven't come up with anything that does yet so maybe someone knows of a program that will allow me to change the appearance of Windows XP Pro's Task bar.

    Re: XP Theme (XPP SP1)

Seems like we lost track of the original problem. Should we not be investigating why the tool tips are behaving the way they are instead of searching for a cosmetic way of disguising the problem?

My interest here is that this problem occurs on my XPP system occasionally. It can get to be very annoying! The tool tips for icons in both the system tray and quick launch tray sometimes play hide-and-seek with me, hiding behind the task bar. This problem is not unique to XPP or "Windows XP Theme". This also occurred under WinME and Win98.

I'd like to know how common this problem is and if there is a solution for it. Based on my experience, it would appear that this problem has been around for a number of years in multiple MS operating systems. Why has this not been addressed by Microsoft?
    Regards,

Back on track. I guess I jinxed my fix because it is no longer working. So what is the cure for the "Tool Tips" staying in the foreground?

Just thought I'd jump in here and tell you that I'm on the hunt with you. It sometimes happens to me that the Quick Launch and Tray tool tips are obscured and I never did pay any attention to it. It seems to only happen once in awhile, always (with me) right after a warm reboot - which I do every morning. Two days ago it was happening, but yesterday and today, they're fine. I'm really bad at searching the Microsoft KB, but I'm trying.... Didn't you and I "share" another taskbar related anomoly awhile back? At least we turn up the same little annoying glitches.

    Changed your picture, huh?

Yeah, after WyllyWylly posted my mug shot in the Scuttlebutt forum, I figured that the one I was using was over 18 months old and at my age, that's a long time!

A couple of months ago, in this forum Bryan Carbonnell posted this link as someplace he uses with better success than directly at MS. Since we're both looking, why don't you try it too? My "phrasing" stinks and I'm not locating anything.
