    Freezing Deleting Bookmarks (2000/SR-1)

My version of Word freezes when I follow these steps:

    1. Create a new document, type a couple of hard returns
    2. Insert an empty bookmark
    3. Insert text after the bookmark
    4. Change the paragraph format to have a left indent.
    5. Type some more hard returns (returning to normal indentation).
    6. Backspace through the all the hard returns, the entered text and the bookmark. (At the moment I hit the bookmark, Word freezes).

(There are a few instances where I think I've run through these exact steps where Word has not had a problem, but if I keep exiting and re-opening Word, this problem will replicate. I've launched word with the "/a" startup switch to prevent add-ins from running and I've also replicated this scenario in that environment).

Is this happening to anyone else? I can't seem to find a bug report on MS-KB...

It happens in Word 97 SR2 too. The Task Manager reports Word to be "Running", not "Not Responding", but winword.exe uses 99% of the CPU constantly.

No idea of the cause, or of a solution, unfortunately.

I just tried this 4 times with Word 97 SR-2, but can't duplicate the problem. I just backspace until the bookmark moves to the top of the page. I'm on Win NT.
