Pictures

Can someone tell me a couple of things about getting pictures or screenshots into a post.

I see Dave A's signature & Geoff's signature. Can this be done without having a website of your own? Can I just create some WordArt, save a file, & then do something (?) to point to that file?

Also, I see screen shots in some of Eileen's posts (like part of a screen or her Mother Superior outfit. I know she walks on water, but how do you include those in a post? (I promise I won't post a picture of myself in a habit, if you only tell me how?)

Thanks.

Re: Pictures

These files are ALL saved on the net at some server. Eileen has full use of the server that Wopr uses.
You can get a FREE web page at several places. Including
http://freepages.rootsweb.com/
http://www.homestead.com/~site/Scripts_Sig...VerticalsSignUp
http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com

Hope this helps.

Re: Pictures

I think I'm right in saying:

I'm fairly sure it needs to be a graphic image, with a maximum size and dimensions. Because I use Front Page anyway, I tend to copy anything in (e.g.) Wordart to FP which converts it to a .jpg or .gif.
Unless Eileen's added the signature-graphic box, you need to then add the picture to your profile and save it. Edit your profile again and your image url will hopefuly be transferred to the w3t site. You then cut'n'paste this full url into your signature.

To insert a picture, use the - in theory you could pinch someone else's signature, like this
<IMG SRC=http://www.amdragon.com/userpics/DaveA-sig.gif>
and pretend to be them! (Sorry Dave)
But I'm sure we are all too honest to do that .....

Re: Pictures

As one can see things can be lifted. As for my signature I am using the one I use our at Eileen's personal web page.
<font color=red>Since she has NOT (but did at one time) allowed us to use HTML in our signatures over there she set up the use of a image of our signatures that we had defined. She (Eileen) being what she is, took the time amd made these images for us, since she took away one of our play tools. This use of HTML can be used in the most improper way. I agree with her on this subject. I am surprized that she is allowing this at this NEW lounge.</font color=red>

Re: Pictures

Thank you both, Leif & Dave, for the explanation. OK, so I need to get a web site (actually, Earthlink has given me 5MB; I just never use it because I never figured out how to use Front Page Express & don't have anything else. (Although I guess both Publisher & Word will also work)

Leif, how did you paste a picture of a tag? Did you have to copy it & publish it somewhere? (I've never published anything, so I'm less than a novice at this).

Thanks again.

Re: Pictures

When you say tag, do you mean the <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/graphic1.gif> image?
If so:
Right_Mouse over the image to be copied and select Properties
Select the entire URL (http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/graphic1.gif) and CntrlIns, then close the Properties window.
Using that very button you get (image)url(/image) - again you will get and must use square not round brackets - select the word 'url' and CntrlIns the URL to replace 'url'.
I believe to show an image in your post, it needs to be published somewhere so that, using the above method, it is loaded into the body of the message. Otherwise, using the Preview/Attach method when posting it is literally an 'attachment'.

Hi Leif:
Yes, that's what I meant by tags; these things
<IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/graphic2.gif> that you just showed me how to do using the image
<IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/graphic1.gif>

Thanks for the info.

Re: Pictures

Speaking of lifting images you can do it from any webpage.
<IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3tuserpics/Leif.gif>

works as long as Eileen allows us to play with full markup.

Glad I didn't fool with Geoff's signature - he would probably have added a wart before transposing ...

Hey Phil
Just a pointer...if you don't want to learn Front Page or the like but still want to know the basics of publishing a web site, go to http://www.htmlgoodies.com. This is the site I learned from and recommend to anyone looking into creating web pages.

Go to what they call The Basics under Primers on the navigation bar and you will find 7 learn at your own pace, easy to understand primers to get you orientated to web design. Once you finish you will be able to make a simple web page for yourself!!

Watch out though... the reason my profile lists sitting behind my computer as a hobby is mainly due to getting hooked on working on mine and others web sites...

have fun!!

Thanks, KT. I appreciate the tip. I don't have the time right now (probably spend too much time on the computer already), but I will save this for when I'm feeling computer deprived.

I'm not supposed to be allowing HTML anywhere - have you found somewhere I've missed?

Watch out if you link to images on somebody elses website - a lot of people object to that.
