    Day of Week as single letter (E2K)

    I have a spreadsheet that I link to an Access database to print a schedule for a large county jail.

    I use =TEXT(WEEKDAY(Master!$A$1)-1,"ddd") to give me the day of the week in SUN MON TUE... format but this requires legal paper and is wasteful. I would like to convert the day of the week to SMTWTFS instead but I do not know how to do this. Any help would be very appreciated.

    Try enclosing your formula with the LEFT function as follows:
    <font color=red>=LEFT(</font color=red>TEXT(WEEKDAY(Master!$A$1)-1,"ddd")<font color=red>,1)</font color=red>

    Thank You so much. I couldn't see the forest for the trees with this. It worked of course.

    You do NOT need the WEEKDAY function:

    =LEFT(TEXT(Master!$A$1-1,"ddd"),1)
    is equivalent to
    =LEFT(TEXT(WEEKDAY(Master!$A$1)-1,"ddd"),1)
