OL XP hangs whole computer *help* (W2k)

I am running Windows 2000 with Office XP Pro and have installed through SP2. When I open OL, as it starts to download mail, the mouse becomes very unresponsive or jumpy. If I try to load another program while it's in this state, even the taskmanager, the screen takes 5-10 minutes to display anything as it displays one line or object at a time.

I've tried closing all other running programs, even reinstalled OL again (not repair) and it still does it.

The first time it did this a few weeks ago, I only had SP1 installed. After installing SP2, it seems to fix it. Then it popped up again with this problem.

    Can anyone help????

Hmmm, not sure why no one was able to respond to my problem. Lot's of views though. Either it means that no one knew the answer or others are having similar problems.

Anyway, I ventured at it again tonight. I wasn't able to reinstall the OL SR2 bec. it said it was already installed. So, then I renamed the original .pst file so that when I opened up OL it would ask for a blank and new .pst to start with. With nothing in there, it seemed to work OK during testing. So, then I decided to import the data from the older .pst file.

It seems to be working OK so far for the past 3 hours. Phew! Guess that was it. There must have been something corrupted in the .pst file?

You may have hit the solution. When Outlook starts up it will first scan the delivery point - a pst in your case - for problems and attempt to fix them. This happens in the background. Given the results of your test it sure sounds like you had some kind of problem there. These can arise from an abnormal shutdown of Outlook. We train our users to use the File | Exit method, and it seems to help. There is a MS utility called scanpst.exe that can sometimes fix these problems.

Where does one find this "scanpst.exe" file?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

I found scanpst.exe by simply doing a search on my HD. I ran it on my old pst file that was messing up and it found no errors at all. Oh well.

So far it seems to have worked still by just importing the data into a new clean pst file.

It used to be installed with Outlook. I would always have to do a find on different systems because the location seemed to vary w/o discernable pattern. I notice it's not on our OLXP installations. The zipped file is still too big to attach. Maybe you can find it at support.microsoft.com or zdnet.com

Yikes. I got home from work and noticed that OL had hung again is is doing the exact same thing.

Below is the log file from OL. What are all of these BBT errors? It may have kept going, but I had to turn off the computer as it hung the whole computer again. It starts readying mail and hangs at 49%. ZoneAlarm even shows a "stuck" read light.
