Hyperlinks don' t work (MS Exchange 4.0.993.4)

OK, I know it is old, I know it should be upgraded to Outlook (we're working on that) but I still want this problem solved!

From a custom build application a mail is composed with a hyperlink to a document in it. This mail is send automatically to one or more employees in hour organisation.
The URL is hidden in the hyperlink, it is shown as an underlined text in the mail.

Persons who already use Outlook as their email client do not have any problem with the hyperlink it works great!

Most persons who still use Exchange 4. as their email client also can use the hyperlink, no problem so far!

A couple of persons who use Exchange 4. as their email client can not use the hyperlink, it is converted to plain text!

Where is the option hidden in the exchange client that converts hyperlinks to plain text? I can not find it!

Thanks for any help on this!

Is there an option to convert html to plain text?
Is there any difference in the version of Internet Explorer installed between those who can and those who can't?

As far as I know there is no option to convert html to plain text.
I have been looking (and still continue) for an option like that sowewhere in Exchange.

Internet Explorer is the same for everyone (5.00).
The problem occurs with some (but not all!) users under Windows NT (workgroup version) and under Windows 95 ( yes, we still use that also ).

Hi Bart:
This is sort of a brute force type of solution. I'd compare each option & preference of a station where the hyperlink works with one where it doesn't & make the change. Sometimes I've even found that an "option" doesn't "take" & you have to change it & change back. Frustrating, I know.

Thanks for the replies.
I already did compare all the options and preferences. They were the same. I changed them to several other values, no changes noticed.
The hyperlinks point to scanned invoices. The mail with the hyperlink is send automatically by a system. Our company is currently upgrading from a Windows 95 / Exchange environment to a Windows XP / Outlook 2002 environment. That will solve the problem eventually.
What we do now for the invoices send to people with the Windows 95 environment is enclose the invoices instead of putting a hyperlink in the mail.
That's good for the network load <img src=/S/blackteeth.gif border=0 alt=blackteeth width=20 height=20> .
