    Is file Open? (vb6)

The previous post unnecessarily complicated things.

The root question is Can you determine programmatically if an excel file is open?

    If so, How?

I am in the slough of despond over this question.

There are some threads in the Excel forum that tackle this problem, for instance the thread starting at <post#=158618>post 158618</post#>. It contains links to other threads. In particular, the code by Rory in a reply in the thread starting at <post#=157723>post 157723</post#> might be useful to you.

I'm new to alot of this, but couldn't you just create a temp file once the program is running and then delete the temp file before exiting the pgm. Have code to check to see if temp file exists -- If so, exit pgm ...

    Make sense?
