    Name manager -getting closer- (97, 2000, XP)

    Hi everyone,

    I decided to start a new thread to make clear I'm coming close to finalising the utility.

    Have a look and enjoy !!!

    Hello Jan Karel,

    Congratulations, I can't find fault with this new version!

    Two final points - they're not meant as criticism or wishes, more something to think about, and perhaps for other testers to react to:
    <UL><LI>In Multi mode, after you hide or unhide names, the selection is lost. Would it be desirable if the selection persisted?
    <LI>Also in Multi mode, if you have "Acknowledge changes" on, and more than one name selected, confirmation is asked for each name individually. Would it be more convenient to ask confirmation once? Or should you just turn off "Acknowledge changes" if you don't want to confirm each individual change?[/list]

    Hi Hans,

    <<In Multi mode, after you hide or unhide names, the selection is lost. Would it be desirable if the selection persisted>>

    I would say yes, keep the selection. But I haven't gotten round to implement that yet, requires some digging <g>.

    I had to work around two apparent bugs in Excel for this utility:

    1.

    When one uses

    oName.RefersTo = sNewRefersTo

    (oName is an object that contains the name object currently selected in the dialog)

    on a name that exists both globally and local to a sheet (with the global one selected)

    oName.RefersTo ="WHateverString"

    will not change the selected global name!!!

    Even worse, instead of the global name, the local sheetname will inherite the refersto property *and* the visible property of the global sheetname!!!!

    2.

    When using the ReferstoLocal property, using a local list-separator in the string one uses to set the property yields an error.

    Hi Hans (and everyone following this thread!!)

    Fixed the selection thing. Also some other bugs, e.g. errors when deleting all names, deletion of the wrong names when in multi mode, etc.

    Hi Jan Karel,

    If I delete a name using your utility, and then close any modified workbook, Excel doesn't ask if I want to save changes. This behaviour persists until I quit and restart Excel. Closing the Name Manager is not enough.

    Works fine now! Thanks for the quick update. I'd say it is ready for distribution now; undoubtedly there will be more items for the wish list if it is used by more people.
