    Final Markup Document (XP)

I just switched from Word 97 to XP. My problem is that every document I open is set to "Final Markup" which shows a thin vertical red line wherever comments are and PRINTS!! those lines. How can I have the default set that each document I open is set to "FINAL"! Thanks in advance for your help.

    Re: Final Markup Document (XP)

<img src=/S/brickwall.gif border=0 alt=brickwall width=25 height=15> We were recently upgraded and had same learning curve with doc changes in XP -- now I'm about to go into a meeting with a dozen folks, half of then will want to send me redlines in Word and half of them are still using Office 97. When everyone rewrites and comments on the same little bit 'o text, it gets way too wierd.

So, I plan to do what I usually do, which is right-click on my toolbar and turn on the Reviewing tools, then maker sure that my own "perfect" copy is set to "Final" (not "Final showing markup"). Of course, I've got a perfect copy that already has all changes made, accepted and saved. My heart is pure, my text is cleaned of all comments, snide remarks, etc. "Final" (or "Original") prints only that version--no comments. "Final with Markup'" or "Original with Markup" gives you that extra fat page on screen and prints lots of doodads.

When you send out your perfect copy, someone will send it back with the settings changed to "Final showing markup," with comments, changes, text boxes inserted to point out various nits to pick...and at least one person will review your document with "Automatically update Styles" turned on.

    Best Wishes,

    Ed

    Re: Final Markup Document (XP)

Thank you for your reply! I was hoping that there is a simple solution to NOT make the Final Markup show up when you first open a document. I want it to be Final always until I am ready to look at the changes. The reason is that I have a lot of templates I created in Word97, and they all have comments in them for the other users. These comments show up as a vertical line when I bring up a new document based on the template. So 50% of the time I forget to turn off the Markup and when I print the document, it shows the lines. Maybe I can come up with a macro or something!? Thanks for sharing with me though.
