how do i set up cpu to shutdown pressing button (Windows XP Pro)

I somehow changed a setting so that whenever I hit the button on the computer, (power button), it comes up with the options, standby, shutdown, hibernate. I want to change it back so that the computer just shuts off when I press the button but i have forgotten. I believe it's very simple, but could someone just please tell me?

    Which button are you using?

Or is this a icon on your desk top?

If it is a icon, what is the information listed in the properties of that icon?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

    Hi Whitezombie--
    1) When you go to Start and Click "Turn off Computer" what happens--what do you see?
    2) When you hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete and bring up the "Task Manager" and click "Shutdown" next to "Help" right under the name bar what happens--what do you see? You can always make a new Shutdown or Restart button on your desktop with a registry hack or a new short cut like this one One Click Shutdown but these should be functioning--are they?

well whats happening which I kind of didn't explain well enough, is when I press the Power button, on the actual case of the computer, not anything happening on the screen, it comes up with the options Shutdown, standby, hibernate, etc, but I want it to just shut down. Understand now?

Right click on the desktop. Select Properties | Screen Saver | Power | Advanced. Power button settings on lower half of screen.
