    email options?

This is really just a 'would-be-nice-but-not-worth-a-lot-of-work' type query - is there any possibility of having the option of having email notifications etc sent to more than one address?

Reason I ask is that until today I have had my work email address as the notification address, and a mail rule set to forward anything from you to me at home - because I am as likely to access the board from home as from work (or vice versa) and need to get answers at whichever address I happen to be at - but I have now twice crashed the office email server because email has bounced from my home ISP back to work, which sends it home automatically, which bounces it back to work, which ... well, you get the idea.

    <img src=/S/bummer.gif border=0 alt=bummer width=15 height=15> I've been told I'm not allowed to do this anymore <img src=/S/crybaby.gif border=0 alt=crybaby width=15 height=15> , so I don't know how to make sure I get replies at both home and work! <img src=/S/sad.gif border=0 alt=sad width=15 height=15>

    Any suggestions would be gratefully welcomed ... <img src=/S/grovel.gif border=0 alt=grovel width=31 height=23>

Why is your 'home' ISP bouncing the emails?

I don't know if the option for multiple forwarding addresses still exists, but http://bigfoot.com did allow forwarding email to more than one account. I know they've basically gone to a paid solution for most of their services, but it's something worth checking out.

    Re: email options?

Bigfoot *is* my ISP! They've been fine up to now (last time it was my own fault - auto 'out-of-office' replies at both ends ...!), but I can only assume they've got a problem now because several times in the last few days people have told me they couldn't send me email because it bounced (undeliverable due to not being able to get smtp response or something - I've just deleted the last of the 7,000 arrived today so can't check for the exact wording).

I've emailed them about it but of course that probably won't help in the circs, so I've got to phone them - and since they're in the States and I'm in the UK that's going to be expensive and can't be done until I get home tonight!

Unfortunately, fixing the ISP won't guarantee this will never happen again, so it doesn't change the fact that I've got to find another way of getting replies both at home and work!

Leif, see my reply to Chris - hey, wouldn't it be cool to be able to reply to more than one post at a time?! <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

Maybe we need in addition of "email notifications " and "PM notifications".

    Hay, <img src=/S/claude.gif border=0 alt=claude width=21 height=21> can this be done?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Pray tell, why do you have an American ISP?

    Re: email options?

No idea. I've been using them for several years now and I only found out it was American when I wanted to phone them recently!

I imagine I just ran a search for free ISPs (as it was then) and picked the one that seemed best at the time - and as you know, there's no real way of telling what country a domain is based in if they don't choose a suffix that tells you!

<img src=/S/ranton.gif border=0 alt=ranton width=66 height=37> You would not believe the number of times I've searched for something I wanted to buy, found somewhere good, only to find it was US and they won't deliver internationally (or charged horrendous rates for doing so)! <img src=/S/rantoff.gif border=0 alt=rantoff width=66 height=37>

    Re: email options?

Sure Beryl, no problemo. Simply seperate the second email address with a semicolon <big>;</big> in the Email Address (for our administrative use only...not visible to other users) of your profile <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    Ahh, if only all request were this simple <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>
    Cheers, Claude.

If only, indeed! <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/starstruck.gif border=0 alt=starstruck width=15 height=15> <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>

Just out of curiosity, did you have to do something for this to work, or is it a standard with the code used? That is, would it be likely to work with other sites or is it something you've done here?

    Many thanks, anyway! <img src=/S/groovin.gif border=0 alt=groovin width=21 height=21>

    Re: email options?

All I had to do is test it on myself <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>. Generally speaking, if the other board sends email like the lounge does, ie, just "To: you@there.com" rather than say "To Beryl M", you should be ok.
    Cheers, Claude.

    Re: email options?

BTW, it only works if you have the correct email address, otherwise emails bounce <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15> (I added a K to the end of your email address now so that it gets sent to .uk rather than just to .u <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>
    Cheers, Claude.

... and to think I used to be able to t ype at 103 words a minute (I'm not saying how many of those words were typed *correctly*, you notice)!

    Thanks <img src=/S/claude.gif border=0 alt=claude width=21 height=21> - good thing someone's awake out there!

    Re: email options?

Ahh, I just realized that the K was indeed put in by you, and me, but, it got chopped off. I've deleted the space in front of the semicolon in your field, your two email addresses together, including the space, were 51 characters long, the field has a size limit of 50 characters. I've now changed the email fields here to allow a maximum of 50 characters.
    Cheers, Claude.

    Well, that's a relief! My typing's not going downhill as fast as I thought! <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>
