I've just installed a second p3 xeon 550 cpu (& required processor power modules) into a compaq sp700 wkstn, running win2k server (no service packs) as an O/S. I've updated the HAL to be ACPI multiprocessor. The BIOS detects a second processor on boot.

On reboot, the hardware wizard kicks in, asks me to install the coprocessor, and then tells me it cannot find a driver (wot - no driver for an Intel CPU???). The HP/Compaq site appears to have no drivers, the handbook says nothing about drivers, and I've done everything relevant I can find on MSKB.

I expected this to be plug'nplay! Anybody got any suggestions? <img src=/S/confused.gif border=0 alt=confused width=15 height=20>

EDIT - tried the same thing with win2k sp2 (installed on another HD & about to be built into a new server), & got the same symptoms. Went back to original HD, still have same issue with coprocessor lacking a driver, but in task mgr I see that there are now 2 windows for CPU Usage History. Behaviour seems to indicate that I DO now have 2 working CPUs. I'm still puzzled by the fact that in Device Mgr I get an error showing for the coprocessor.
