Does Archive delete automatically? (Outlook 2002)

We've set up archiving to archive or delete old items | move old items to. We were warned that Outlook will still delete items even if we select move rather than permantly delete old items. Do not want to loose information. Is there any truth to this or is this just a rumour?
    Thanks.

I've been using Outlook for about three years, and it seems to work fine moving entries to archive.
As personal preference I keep all my sent and deleted data and move them to archive - nothing has been lost yet <img src=/S/crossfingers.gif border=0 alt=crossfingers width=17 height=16>
That is, my personal folder holds my last three months of drivel - the archive holds the rest.

Thanks. Three years seems a good enough example. Appreciate your response.
