    Mail Merge Envelopes (Word 2000)

    Hello all
I know how to mail merge envelopes. I know how to mail merge form letters. My question is -- is there a way to do BOTH at the same time? Like create a main document form letter, attach the data source of names/addresses, and have it create a mail merge of both the letters and the envelopes that will be needed from that same data source? Does it have to be done as two separate merges?

Why not add the envelope to the document, (click the Add to document button in the Envelopes and Lables Dialog),
then put your merge fields where you want 'em. Save the document with envelope. Run the merge. Should work.

    Kevin..
This is great! I had never tried that before.
One question. I noticed when I completed the merge, it set it up as one letter, one envelope, one letter, one envelope, etc. I haven't yet sent it to a printer (because I'm testing this on a different computer) -- but in theory will it know to pull the letters from the letter tray and envelopes from the envelope feeder on the printer?

Well, I suppose that depends on your printer configuration. If it's set up correctly, YES!

If, however, your envelopes are not going the env feeder, you may have a case of jobdestinationits. I have diagnosed this condition on LAN printers and Word 97: you must manually set the Envelope printer tray one time. And, sadly, no VBA code will do it for you, none that I have tried -- including modiying the registry directly -- will remedy the illness. Click the "Feed" envelope button on the Envelopes and Labels dialog and set it to Envelope Feeder or Auto Select -- either one should do it.

OK in a message to another member you said: <<< <font color=red> And, sadly, no VBA code will do it for you, none that I have tried -- including modiying the registry directly </font color=red> >>>

I have a different problem when using Network Printers:

We use Header Pages. These are a sheet of paper that come out of the default paper tray and it has the name of the workstation that sent the print job, time of day and number of pages.

When I get to use Mail Merge with envelops attached to the document, as you advised the other member, I some times get that header page printed on an envelop <img src=/S/aflame.gif border=0 alt=aflame width=16 height=16> and needless to say, everything gets messed up by having every so often an empty envelop.

Have you any VBA code that may help in this area, or can you get me started with a couple of ideas and I'll try and write it.

I am thinking that I need to redirect each section of the document to the appropriate paper source, but how do I control the header page?

    Thanks
