Filter Drop Down (Excel 2000)

We've just switched to Excel 2000. I'm having trouble with Auto Filter. The drop down list does not appear. The check mark appears next to "AutoFilter" on the menu, but there is no drop down arrow. HELP!!! Please. It's driving me crazy. <img src=/S/crazy.gif border=0 alt=crazy width=15 height=15> I have opened older files, created under Excel97, that have filters applied. Once I turn them off, I have the same problem - can't get the drop down arrow to appear.

Does choosing Help, detect and repair do any good?

This was a regular problem for me when I first moved to 2K. It seems to have stopped happening but only after two or three months of closing excel and running the command line "C:Program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeexcel.exe" /regserver from the start run box every time it did. I have noticed that about (finger in air time) 5% of the users at my company experienced this as they moved from 97 to 2K. I've never tried Jan Karel's suggestion, but I'll keep it in mind if I see the problem recur. It may well be a service pack related issue - but I can't remember when I applied what to my machine. Can you get hold of SR1a and apply that?

Thanks for the responses. After all the frustration of yesterday, I now can't get the problem to repeat!!! So I haven't tried the Repair suggestion (yet!). I was thinking about the problem on the way home from work. Our company uses SAP, and I regularly export from SAP to Excel - there is an automatic export to Excel - the data transfers immediately to an unsaved workbook. I also had problems when I opened an excel file from Windows Explorer , rather than from Excel itself. But I can't test that theory this morning since things seem to be working ok.
