    Backup Program? (XP)

    Hello:

Up until XP, Windows came with a very handy backup program. Now it seems that with XP Microsoft has abandoned a built-in backup program.

    Is this accurate?

If not, how do I install the backup program?

If so, what backup program would you recommend? All I really need a program that will automaticaly, i.e., without manual intervention, backup my data using command lines.

    Thanks so much.

Windows XP Pro does have a backup program but I don't know about Home. You might prefer Karen Kenworthy's Replicator. It's free!

Just to confirm for you - Home does not come with backup installed, as Al suspected.

    Jon,
Winxp Home does have the back up utility on the CD but does not install it by default.
MSKB #'s Q320820 and Q302894 explain it and how to install it from your CD.
I've done this and it works fine. I think it's actually the old NTbackup, but as long as it works!

    Jon--
Here's steps to install backup from your CD-Rom as Viking suggests.

    Thanks for the reference.

I tried Replicator, but found it too confusing.

I installed the program, but automating it via Scheduled Tasks didn't work.

    Re: Backup Program? (XP)

I have the same desire as Jon Rick, an automated backup of specific files. I found and downloaded the replicator from your Oct/02 post and found it works well and on schedule. My problem though is that "it" changes the modified date of the files to the date replicator runs. Perhaps its the settings? or is there a workaround to get the files with their original dates backed up? I'm sending to a CD-RW.
