    Image Library (Access 2002)

I have created a database of pictures, I need to know what would best (and easiest ) serve my purpose. To interface to this DB(wither using Access or perhaps HTML) and pull up a high-res and low-res version of the same picture(same ID number(actually filename) with either a H(hires) or L(lores) appended to the filename. All users have MS office so ACCESS is not a problem but I think it just might be overkill for such a simple model. I have limited resources with HTML but lots of info on the web to get me started. I am sure to get some suggestions from my trusted co-loungers, I know the answer is out there...

    Re: Image Library (Access 2002)

What exactly do you mean by a "database of pictures"? Do you mean you have collected a bunch of picture files or that you've stored those images in an Access database?

If the latter, then the best advice you'll get is "don't do it that way". Even SQL Server isn't really a good place to store images, and there's an article here that goes into some of the reasons.

If you're just storing the filenames in a database, it is quite simple to use an image control to display and image, although you'll need to use code to dynamically set the Picture property of the image control to the path and filename for the image file. If you want to display high and low res side by side, you'll need two image controls and appropriate code to set each. I posted a demo database in Post 126927 that shows how to use the image control to display images in a form.

    Charlotte:
Thanks for responding as soon as you did, your question re: images DB, I have simply put images together in a file folder with unique IDs as filenames. Your method looks good and you have given me much to consider before I tread too deeply. I do know that I want to keep the images in the file system and not in the db for space considerations alone as pointed out by WendellB another trooper. For now until I have measured all options I'll continue to navigate using Win Explorer. Thanks again for your help.
