Constrain Search tag to one Forum

Can this be done now? The Help doesn't show it, and I would not have thought it difficult, but then I'm not the poor soul who would have to write it and test it am I? <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15> <img src=/S/grin.gif border=0 alt=grin width=15 height=15>

    constrain
    or
    constrained constrain
    Hmm.
Not easy, but it is possible.

OK, can you show how you did the second one? (The first one gets all kindsa Forums.)

    <!t>[search]What did you put here?<!t>[/search]

    And is it bulletproof?

OK - here's my magic recipe:

First of all you use the standard <!t>[search]<!/t> tags around the word constrain to get constrain

You then preview, right click on the <font color=blue>constrain</font color=blue>, select properties and copy the URL which is "http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/dosearch.pl?Forum=All_Forums&Match=Or&Old=allposts &Words=constrain"

    You then type/paste:

    <!t><!/t>Constrained constrain<!t><!/t>

but edit out All_Forums and replace it with Lounge to get:

    <!t><!/t>Constrained constrain<!t><!/t>

    and Bob's your Uncle.

(It's as bulletproof as your knowledge of what to put in after Forum= . . .)

Ah, very sneaky, using the Search tags to get the All_Forums URL, but efficacious. <img src=/S/thumbup.gif border=0 alt=thumbup width=15 height=15> Thanks!

Re: Constrain Search tag to one Forum

    Hi John and Leif

I'm a little confused here about what you guys are doing....
If I use the Lounge's "Search" engine, entering the fields as below, I get the same result as Leif's second example.

    Lounge Matters
    constrain
    And
    All Posts
    10

Does this not work in some way?

    Have a Great day!!!

Re: Constrain Search tag to one Forum

I think John is wanting to put a hot-link in a post that will do as you suggest (from the Search window) but directly as a link.

(In the 1-Click TagPanel there is a shortcut to put in

    <!t>[search]<!/t>term<!t>[/search]<!/t>

using the <IMG SRC=http://www.wopr.com/w3timages/search.gif> button, but it defaults to searching the whole Lounge - and, BTW, using Match=Or as opposed to And)

Thanks Leif and John for the explanations.
Now all I need to do is remember where the info is. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Re: Constrain Search tag to one Forum

Soitenly! (It works as you describe.) But, for your amusement and further edification there is also the capability of embedding a clickable search in a Lounge message, just as I have done here (and Leif and I have done earlier in the thread):

<!t>[search]roopooman<!t>[/search] creates a clickable search like this roopooman. Click it and see.

You find this in the smart tags as the Inspector Clouseau magnifying glass. You would use this nifty feature where you want to show a reader search results for themselves as it were. Play with it in the test forum.
